Businesses invited to sign up for community solar project

Transition Tattenhall’s community solar energy project is securing the support of businesses before work commences next year.

A bold new initiative, Transition Tattenhall Solar is designed to empower local businesses to embrace clean, sustainable energy. Businesses who sign up will have solar PV panels installed at no cost and will be able to purchase renewable energy directly from Transition Tattenhall Solar at a discount.

Transition Tattenhall has received initial funding from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) via the Community Energy Fund (now Great British Energy Community Fund) to explore and understand the full commercial viability of the Transition Tattenhall Solar project.

The cost of buying, installing and maintaining the panels will be managed through a community share offer launched next year. This will allow local people to invest, earn a return and help fund more green initiatives in the future through Transition Tattenhall’s ongoing community projects.

Peter Radley, Transition Tattenhall director, said: “Transition Tattenhall Solar could be a real game changer for businesses in the area, helping them to decarbonise operations, become more attractive to investors and also lower their energy bills.

“As a Community Benefit Society, we are committed to developing innovative solutions that benefit our community, as well as the towns and villages nearby. This part of Cheshire has a wealth of different businesses that could benefit, from agriculture to manufacturing to hospitality.

“We are talking to a number of businesses already but if your company is on a journey to net zero and is looking at renewable energy solutions for your business then please do get in touch.”

The project is part of Transition Tattenhall’s wider goal of tackling climate change by reducing carbon, improving biodiversity, reducing consumption and strengthening community resilience.

Representatives are speaking to businesses in the local area, from farms to industrial units to visitor attractions, with an annual power demand of 100,000kWh or greater.
